Aamir Khan and Award Ceremonies

I shall only attend an award ceremony if I'm convinced of complete impartiality of the jury.  - Aamir Khan

Aamir & Shekar

The conviction that Bollywood awards are mostly bogus fanfares has been Aamir's long held position. The then 'CEO of The Indian Express Group' Shekar Gupta wanted to convince him otherwise and make him attend the Screen Awards, which the group was hosting. In that pursuit, Shekar spoke to Aamir of the impartiality of his jury, and the pressures that he had endured to pull off the event in a fair manner. The actor retorted with a question on why there were two selections for every award category. Shekar explained that one was his jury's choice and the other was an audience choice which was selected by a fair and extensive poll among the public. To this, Aamir replied... "This is a compromise to ease the pressure on your jury's choices".

Well, he was right here, as the audience are already rewarding their chosen movies/actors at the Box Office. On the contrary, awards should solely focus on appreciating the artistic brilliance, rather than to appease the galleries.
