Thiruma's recent statement that Manu Smriti considers all women as servitors of men and their sole purpose is to satisfy the male desires (aka prostitution) has created a flutter.
In a recent webinar, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and anti-caste crusader Thol.Thirumavalavan stated that Manu Smrithi considers that all women are below men and that the purpose of a woman's very creation is to satiate men. Now, either this is true or Thiruma has maliciously misquoted Manu Smriti. Reacting to this, the State BJP leadership kicked up a flutter, claiming that Thiruma has insulted all Hindu women and that all 'Hindus must Unite' to rally against him. The intent was clearly to politically stifle him in the run up the approaching election.
Well... Firstly, Thiruma's claim on Manu-Smriti wasn't specific to Hindu women. Secondly, even if his claim was wrong, how does it count as an insult to women? It would rather make sense for the BJP to give a clarion call for all Hindus to unite against Thiruma as he had insulted 'Manu Smriti'. Maybe, they themselves do realize that all Hindus can't unite for Manu Smriti.
